Ringmasters Composers Certifyd Programme

Introduction

Gabriel Prokiev was born in London and as a child, around the age of 10, he began to write pop songs and play in bands. Having an early start gave him further reason to pursue a career in music. He studied composition at both York and Birmingham University. He then went on to win a composers residency in Seattle at the Bourges International concours of electroacoustic music. For the last 8 years he has been writing a variety of different styles, from dance, electro, hip-hop to the time-honored classical.
In 2003 his String Quartet for the Elysian Quartet was released on his own independent record label - nonclassical, along with the remixes of the original track. His unique style is comprised of his opposing backgrounds of contemporary classical laced with his electro/dance, revisiting the origins and the evolution of music.

Other recent works; include a piece for percussionist Joby Burgess using two beer bottles and electronics; a piece for solo violin and solo dancer and is premiering his concerto for "dancing" viola, string orchestra, trombones and percussion in Amsterdam. He is also the resident DJ at The Macbeth, in Hoxton at the monthly "classical" club night. Capable of employing a wide range of musical reveal, he and his music show a promising future ahead.
